New Shelter Update. Although our new shelter project has experienced more delays due to contractors scheduling conflicts and their overbooking, significant progress is moving forward. Ken and my grandson continue working to rectify the framework and get the project back on track. With the hvac contractor’s slower than usual installations, plumbing and electrical, contractors are waiting to resume work. Getting drywall up will be next. We <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Animal Aid Humane Society recently encountered a pair of General Contractors who engaged in gold plating, a phenomenon prevalent in project management, where both General Contractors and contractors add unrequested features or enhancements beyond the defined project scope. This practice falls short of ideal standards and negatively impacts budgets, particularly for organizations like Animal Aid, reliant on donations. The issue is exacerbated by contractors with unskilled workers.General Contractors submitting low bids, only to incur costly overruns. The construction industry’s prioritization of volume over other factors contributes to this market gap, as contractors find mid-range projects less profitable without premium pricing. Our non-profit organization, operating independently on donations and volunteer efforts, faces significant challenges in finding suitable contractors with a skilled workforce. The industry’s segmentation based on profitability further complicates matters, with many contractors focusing on lucrative corporate contracts. As a volunteer, I decided to get involved with this new shelter project to rectify this situation as bestaspossible, but I too encountered unexpected challenges. Securing skilled labor demands creative solutions, and the phenomenon of contractor gold plating can have detrimental effects on our budget. Despite inadequate assistance from partnerships, Animal Aid remain focused on securing donations from passionate individuals and move forward.My grandson and I are committed to realizing this project.
