New Shelter Updates

With the rainy season approaching, the volunteers begin to worry. Due to the recurring flooding of our shelter, we are compelled to relocate to a safer haven, and we urgently need your support. The current situation poses unacceptable risks to the well-being of our animals and volunteers, and we cannot afford to wait any longer. Over the years, our shelter has suffered devastating floods in 2008, 2013, and three times in 2019, each time highlighting the inadequacy of the city’s flood control measures. The root cause of these floods lies in the city administrators’ failure to install functional pumps to divert rainwater over the dike when the flood gate is closed. Despite our pleas, they have refused to construct a pump station, leaving us with no choice but to seek this new location. We implore you to contribute to our New Shelter Fund, as the costs of replacing damaged items and ensuring the safety of our animals are too high to bear. With the funds currently available in our building fund, we have initiated the process of constructing a new, safer shelter. We have broken down the project into phases, and as more donations become available, we will accelerate our progress. We have contracted for a pole building structure to be erected on a foundation, with construction set to begin soon. By mid-to-late July, weather permitting, the building should be erected. We are currently soliciting bids for plumbing, heating, and electrical work, interior walls, as well as concrete for the interior. While we aim to complete as much of the shelter as possible with the funds we have, we will require additional donations to finalize the interior, landscaping, and parking area. Your support is crucial in helping us create a secure and nurturing environment for our animals.
