We are devastated, for some this video may be hard to watch
The search is on for missing cats that ran from their burning shelter in Moline Monday night.
The fire broke out in a room at the Animal Aid Humane Society shelter at 50th Street and 4th Ave. At least 11 cats were killed in the fire. Several more are still missing.
The president of the shelter says investigators think the fire was caused by an electrical outlet located near the bedding for the cats. Cathy Moorhouse says volunteers are devastated.
"It's a nightmare, it is somebody's worse nightmare. Just so upsetting," she added.
Five of the missing cats were found and all the animals that were rescued from the fire have been taken to the Rock Island County Animal Care and Control shelter in Moline.
If you'd like to help the shelter, they are looking for animal carriers and volunteers to find the missing cats.
If you think that you've spotted a stray cat that has escaped, the shelter staff tell us the cats are wearing pink and blue collars.
